Some of the world’s best diving spots can be found in Sharm el Sheikh. Everyone who comes here is captivated by the coral and sealife on view. You can find the corals less than a metre from the surface going all the way down to the sea bed.

People often prefer luxury holidays in Egypt for many other reasons that just diving, for example, a Nile cruise is a popular choice.

There are fish all over the reef that can be seen from the surface as well as from a dive. To compliment your diving or snorkeling holiday, stay in Sharm el Sheikh hotels that are of a high standard and reasonably priced.

The diving is from the Straits of Tiran in the North to Ras Mohamed in the South. There are regular excursions into the Gulf of Suez to dive the wrecks of Dunraven and Thistlegorm near the region of Abu Nuas.

Some useful diving guidelines whilst in Egypt:

  • Perform a pre-check on your equipment and that of your companion
  • Watch your depth and don’t exceed what you have achieved in training. Generally there is a 30m limit
  • Avoid touching the reef you may damage it, or you could suffer personal injury
  • Complete a safety stop of 3 minutes at 5m before surfacing. Do this close to the reef or on the mooring line.
  • Do a buoyance check while on the safety stop period. If at the end of the dive at 5m you have air in the BC, try taking a kilo of lead off the belt.
  • Make your ascent along the mooring line or close to the reef. Avoid the ascent in open blue water as there is a danger from the boats.
  • Swim back to the boat on the surface, and not a couple of meters under. When you are underwater the captain of the boat cannot see you and you could be injured by a propeller.
  • Log yourself back onto the boat with the DiveMaster, using the log-sheet provided.
