Byrd Chirps and Digs for Worms

Robert Byrd’s recent comments criticizing President Bush’s tailhook landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln demonstrates just how desperate the ultra-liberal Democratic leadership has become
A thought occurred to me this week about Senator Robert Byrd’s recent criticism of President Bush’s tail hook landing on the USS Abraham Lincoln to declare an end to major combat hostilities in Iraq. It seems that Byrd has been making ridiculous statements about any policy President Bush has initiated since the start of this Presidency in 2001. Seeing President George W. Bush acting as the Commander-in-Chief of the United States Armed Forces by landing in a Navy S-3B Viking warplane on the deck of a ship and appearing in a naval fighter pilot’s flight suit and gear has created a nightmare scenario for Democrats and liberals in general. Bush, a former fighter pilot, is probably one of the most physically fit and rigorous Presidents this nation has had in a long time. And, like Ronald Reagan, Mr. Bush is a man of principle, choosing to set a course to an objective and then sticking to the game plan. Unlike his predecessor, who made every decision via the latest popularity poll while searching for his “legacy,” Bush has governed on principle by putting leadership first, which will guarantee a his legacy. Yet it is not a legacy he is actively seeking. He is just trying to do the job he was hired by Americans to do. Mr. Bush has proven beyond any fringe of a doubt that he is the right leader for these times of fighting the barbaric Islamists and terrorist murderers who poison our world. Democrats such as Byrd cannot grasp nor fathom the magnitude of this President. They do not understand why he is such a popular President with seventy percent of all Americans. The Democrats and the left are so inept in their miscalculations of George W. Bush that they have become reduced to childish name calling in much the same manner as a sore loser on the elementary school playground might react. So now the Democrats, led by Byrd, are up in arms about Mr. Bush’s choice of landing on a service naval warship to make his statement. The left tries to pin Mr. Bush as looking “aloof” and “out of place” in performing such a “stunt” and wearing the “Top Gun” flight suit for a photo-op. It is a sad attempt to get Americans to view Mr. Bush in much the same way as they did when then Democratic nominee Michael Dukakis took his famous tank ride in 1988. The images of that squalid, short man wearing a large egg-shaped tank helmet on his oversized head bordered on the ridiculous. Americans could see right through the Democrat’s scheme. They knew Dukakis was only going for a photo-op and had no supporting plans for the military other than reducing its influence and war fighting capacity. Unlike Dukakis, Mr. Bush truly loves and respects those under his command. Also, unlike Dukakis, Mr. Bush looks, acts, and is every bit the charismatic and principled leader that his actions portray him to be. The military personnel on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln were in genuine awe, respect and excitement at being selected by their Commander-in-Chief for his choice of locale to make his speech. It is doubtful Bill Clinton could have ever received such respect and admiration from these warriors who lay everything on the line to defend America's freedoms. Unlike Mr. Byrd and his liberal Democratic friends Kerry, Kennedy and Leahy, President Bush continues to provide true leadership that America needs during this time. It is because of his leadership that we are winning the war against radical Islamist terrorism. And his leadership will be remembered by an overwhelming majority of Americans when they return him to another four years in the fall of 2004. And there will be Robert Byrd, still flying against the wind of common sense and putting his foot into his beak.
